چکیده

Carbon, nitrogen and oxygen abundances were derived from high-resolution spectra of 6 cool supergiants of the Small Magellanic Cloud. Oxygen-to-iron ratios (mean value [O/Fe] ≈–0.18 dex) are found to be similar to those found in young objects in the LMC and the Galaxy. This result is discussed in terms of chemical evolution. A mean deficiency of the carbon-to-iron ratio of [C/Fe] ≈–0.3 dex and a nitrogen-to-iron ratio [N/Fe] ≈+0.22 dex might imply a mixing signature, which is confirmed by the low 12 C/ 13 C ratio measured in three stars. In terms of chemical evolution, carbon plus nitrogen abundances have to be considered: in our sample, a mean value of [(C + N)/Fe] ≈ –0.15 dex indicates a slight deficiency in carbon plus nitrogen with respect to the Sun, similar to the deficiencies found in Galactic supergiants and Orion. Lithium has been detected in all the program stars, reaching (Li)=0.6 dex for two stars.

Abundances of cool supergiants in the SMC young cluster NGC 330 ?

NGC 330 is the brightest SMC young cluster and contains many bright supergiants. This cluster has aroused special interest, since the earlier abundance determinations indicated an abundance lower by a factor ∼5 than in the SMC field young population. Taking advantage of our previous high resolution analysis of a sample of type K supergiants in the SMC field (Paper I and II), we analyse 6 cool s...

Three - micron spectra of AGB stars and supergiants in nearby galaxies ⋆

The dependence of stellar molecular bands on the metallicity is studied using infrared L-band spectra of AGB stars (both carbon-rich and oxygen-rich) and M-type supergiants in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC) and in the Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy. The spectra cover SiO bands for oxygen-rich stars, and acetylene (C 2 H 2), CH and HCN bands for carbon-rich AGB stars. T...

Understanding B-type supergiants in the low metallicity

Despite a resurgence of effort over the last decade in the area of massive stars there is still ambiguity over their evolutionary path, contamination of their surface abundances and the behaviour of their stellar winds. Here 10 SMC B-type supergiants are analysed applying a unified model atmosphere code FASTWIND to intermediate resolution spectra from the ESO Multi Mode Instrument (EMMI) on the...

An Effective Nitrogen Doping Technique for Improving the Performance of Lithium Ion Batteries with CNT Based Electrodes

Lithium ion batteries are among the most used rechargeable batteries in the world. Carbon nanostructures including carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as important electrode materials for this kind of batteries. Therefore improving the performance of these carbon based electrodes in Lithium ion batteries is an important issue and attracts much attention in the battery community. In this manu...

High resolution infrared spectroscopy of CN and NH lines: nitrogen abundance in oxygen-rich giants through K to late M

The analyses of high resolution infrared spectra have been done for CN lines in oxygen-rich cool evolved stars including 2 K giants, 20 M giants and 1 S-type star. Since CN lines analyzed in the present work are weak and resolved well, they are appropriate for quantitative analyses. CN lines of ∆v =−2 and −1 sequences (red system) which are in the Kand the H-window regions, respectively, give t...
